EUROBAT’s Manifesto for the EU Elections 2024

The EU Elections in 2024 are prepared to shape the future of the European Union, and with it, the trajectory of policies, regulations, and innovations that will impact our industry. EUROBAT, as the association for European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers, recognises the pivotal role the battery sector plays in achieving the European Commission’s objectives for a decarbonised, reliable, and secure energy system. 

At EUROBAT, we truly believe that by creating a united front and a compelling narrative for the battery industry, we can take a crucial step towards achieving the goals set forth by the European Commission.  

We invite all our members and supporters to actively engage with our campaigns, share our vision, and amplify the voice of the battery industry during this pivotal moment in EU history. Together, we can make a profound impact on the EU Elections 2024 and work towards a brighter and more sustainable European future.  

When creating EUROBAT’s key messages for the Manifesto on the EU Elections 2024, we have pursued to align our association’s vision with the critical objectives of the European Commission. Our main objective is to drive the battery industry towards a more sustainable and decarbonised future, and this manifesto is the vehicle through which we convey that commitment. We focus on key messages that emphasise the role of batteries in achieving the Commission’s vision of a decarbonised and reliable energy system, with renewable energy at its core. 

Mobility: In the domain of mobility, EUROBAT emphasises the importance of battery technology for electric vehicles. We advocate for policies and investments that accelerate the adoption of electric mobility solutions, enhancing urban air quality and reducing carbon emissions. Battery technology is the driving force behind cleaner and more sustainable transportation.

Energy: Addressing the energy challenge, EUROBAT underscores the critical role of batteries in energy storage and grid stability. We call for policies that promote the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid and recognise the essential contribution of batteries to achieve a sustainable and secure energy future.

Innovation: Innovation remains a core focus for EUROBAT. We advocate for support and incentives for research and development in battery technologies. We believe that fostering innovation is vital to continuously improve battery efficiency, performance, and environmental sustainability, ensuring the industry stays at the forefront of technological advancement.

Level Playing Field: EUROBAT is committed to creating a level playing field for battery manufacturers. We call for regulations that ensure fair competition and market access for European battery producers. Creating an environment where European battery manufacturers can effectively compete on a global scale is essential to promote industry growth and sustainability.

Circularity: Promoting circularity is a fundamental element of EUROBAT’s mission. We advocate for sustainable battery design, use, and end-of-life practices. Circular economy principles guide our approach, aiming to maximise the recycling and reuse of battery materials, reducing waste and environmental impact.
