EUROBAT Files Appeal Against European Commission Competition Decision from 15 December 2025
Brussels, 4 March 2026
EUROBAT has formally lodged an appeal to the EU’s General Court against the European Commission’s 15 December 2025 decision imposing a fine on EUROBAT in connection with alleged breaches of EU competition law concerning automotive starter batteries.
The association respectfully disagrees with the Commission’s assessment of the legal conclusions as they relate to EUROBAT. Through its appeal, EUROBAT seeks annulment of the decision as regards EUROBAT to ensure that the role and responsibilities of trade associations are accurately and proportionately interpreted under EU competition law.
Maintaining the highest standards of compliance, integrity and transparency always was and remains a guiding principle for the association. EUROBAT continues to support fair and robust competition within the European battery sector and will engage constructively with the relevant authorities throughout the appeal proceedings.
Due to the ongoing legal procedure, EUROBAT will make no further comment at this stage.
