Battery value chain industry associations support the ‘stop-the-clock’ battery due diligence proposal
EUROBAT, together with RECHARGE, the voice of the advanced rechargeable and lithium batteries value chain in Europe, and Eurometaux, the voice of non-ferrous metals producers and recyclers in Europe, call on Members of the European Parliament to approve the Omnibus IV stop-the-clock proposal for battery due diligence, postponing the battery due diligence requirements by two years. We urge MEPs to approve the proposed legislation during the July plenary session to prevent the application of the rules from August 2025 as foreseen in the EU Batteries Regulation.
Postponing the rules' application is necessary in the context of the still pending Commission guidelines as well as the still missing list of notified bodies, which shall carry out third-party verification of battery due diligence obligations.
Any further amendments to the content of battery due diligence rules to align them with the horizontal Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and Corporate Sustainability
Reporting Directive should be done preferably on the proposal for a Regulation on simplification measures for SMCs or the proposal for a Regulation on digitalisation.
