Battery manufacturer CATL joins EU battery association EUROBAT

EUROBAT expands membership with addition of global battery producer

EUROBAT – the association of European automotive and industrial battery manufacturers - is pleased to announce that Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) has joined its membership ranks.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) is a global leader of new energy innovative technologies, committed to providing premier solutions and services for new energy applications worldwide. Headquartered in Ningde, China. CATL had 33,078 employees around the world with more than 5,000 staff engaged in R&D as of the end of 2020. The company is currently in the process of developing its first European production base in Arnstadt, Germany.

Matthias Zentgraf, CATL EU-Region Co-President, said, “ With European Commissions’ vision for a climate-neutral EU by 2050, we are proud to bring our EV battery technologies and manufacturing to Europe, contributing to a more sustainable Europe powered by E-mobility. EUROBAT Executive-Director Rene Schroeder commented: “We are very happy to welcome CATL as a new member. Europe’s battery industry is currently at a pivotal moment. Investments into Europe’s automotive and industrial battery industry are needed if we want Europe to reach its decarbonisation ambition, as recently announced in the European Commission’s Fit for 55 package. At the same time, policy-makers and stakeholders are in the process of shaping the future policy framework for batteries, notably through the new Batteries Regulation”.

EUROBAT is the leading association for European automotive and industrial battery manufacturers, covering all battery technologies, and has more than 50 members. The members and staff work with all policy-makers, industry stakeholders, NGOs and media to highlight the important role batteries play for decarbonised mobility and energy systems as well as all other numerous applications.
