The Platform for the Electrification of Surface Transport brings together eleven organisations from across industries and transport modes, including EUROBAT. It is committed to the promotion of further electrification of surface transport on a cooperative and multi-modal basis. The newly-formed Platform is organising a panel discussion on the electrification of transport at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Widely publicized safety incidents and recalls of lithium-ion batteries have raised legitimate concerns regarding lithium-ion battery safety. Battery Safety 2012 is conveniently timed with Lithium Battery Power 2012 and will address these concerns by exploring the following topics:
 
• Application specific battery safety issues affecting battery performance
• Major battery degradation and reliability factors
• Battery management systems
• Commercial cells evaluation and failure analysis
• Advances in testing techniques and protocols
• High throughput testing, automation and modeling for better safety
• Standardization and regulatory issues

Alfons Westgeest, EUROBAT' Secretary General, will be speaking at the opening session of this event. EUROBAT will also be managing one of the session of the event dedicated to batteries.

The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) are jointly organising the 1st International Conference and Exhibition on Off-grid Renewable Energy, an official contribution to the UN Sustainable Energy for All Initiative. This Conference will be the first major international event focusing on off-grid renewables in developing countries with a special focus on Africa. With the objective of increasing the collaboration between public authorities and the private sector, the Conference's participants will collectively address issues related to sustainable rural electrification.
A large number of key stakeholders will be present at this event: Energy Ministers, rural electrification decision-makers, worldwide private sector representatives, utilities delegates, international organisations and financing institutions. In summary, a wide variety of participants, all with a role to play in advancing off-grid renewables in developing countries.

The 13th edition of Batteries, the main international power supply conference and exhibition, will take place 28th to 30th September 2011 in Cannes-Mandelieu, France. Building on the past editions success, Batteries 2011 promise to be the main pole of exchanges between the whole value chain of the battery market: raw material and electronic devices suppliers, battery manufacturers, industrial users, environment and recycling specialists and universities.

The 17th International Lead Conference, Pb2011, will be held in the Lisbon Marriott Hotel, Lisbon, Portugal, on 21-23 September 2011. This Conference will continue the series which started in London in 1962, and which has since been held at venues in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Hungary.

This year's event will focus on:

• Best industry practice in responsible care and sustainability
• New technology and its role in managing risks in the production and use of lead
• The drivers for health and environmental legislation and their likely future direction
• Trends, threats and opportunities in the global lead market, in particular those arising from the increasing desire for more low emission vehicles

The 2nd International Secondary Lead Conference which will be held immediately prior to the 14 Asian Battery Conference in Hyderabad, India 12 & 13 September 2011. This conference will bring together all aspects of secondary lead smelting; discussing plant design, smelting regimes, refractories, burner design, slag formation and structures, pollution and environmental control amongst other presentations. It is the conference aim to open up all aspects of plant operations and control as to give not only operators, but people interested in secondary smelting a better understanding of the processes involved in the industry.

Running for the 3^rd time World Lead Conference will again provide forum for discussion and business negotiations for the key players in the lead industry worldwide. There is a lot to talk about at the moment from the commercial and environmental standpoint. Prices remain volatile bringing lead closer to the commodity status and creating as many challenges as opportunities. The conference is aiming at addressing both, gathering lead miners, smelters, recyclers, end users and traders in the beneficial debate over the most burning issues in the convenient hub of Europe, Brussels.
