The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) are jointly organising the 1st International Conference and Exhibition on Off-grid Renewable Energy, an official contribution to the UN Sustainable Energy for All Initiative. This Conference will be the first major international event focusing on off-grid renewables in developing countries with a special focus on Africa. With the objective of increasing the collaboration between public authorities and the private sector, the Conference's participants will collectively address issues related to sustainable rural electrification.
A large number of key stakeholders will be present at this event: Energy Ministers, rural electrification decision-makers, worldwide private sector representatives, utilities delegates, international organisations and financing institutions. In summary, a wide variety of participants, all with a role to play in advancing off-grid renewables in developing countries.

A conference, gathering the different actors, from industry, research institutes, NGO’s and public authorities, would therefore be very helpful to develop a roadmap for sustainable urban mobility technology. With respect to society, transportation systems should meet basic human needs for health. With respect to the economy, transportation systems should provide cost-effective technologies. It should also support vibrant, sustainable economic activity. Finally, with respect to the environment, transportation should make use of land in a way that has little or no impact on the integrity of ecosystems. It should use energy sources that are essentially renewable and produce no more emissions than can be accommodated by the planet’s restorative ability.
EUROBAT will be represented at this event by its Secretary General, Alfons Westgeest, who will be speaking at the opening session. Mr Uwe Kohler, JCI, will be moderating one of the sessions
EUROBAT will be represented in this event by Mr Tolga ÖZTUTAN, R&D Projects Chief, MUTLU and Mr. Serkan SALMAN, R&D Engineer, INCI AKÜ
The 13th edition of Batteries, the main international power supply conference and exhibition, will take place 28th to 30th September 2011 in Cannes-Mandelieu, France. Building on the past editions success, Batteries 2011 promise to be the main pole of exchanges between the whole value chain of the battery market: raw material and electronic devices suppliers, battery manufacturers, industrial users, environment and recycling specialists and universities.
The Congress will focus on:
The 17th International Lead Conference, Pb2011, will be held in the Lisbon Marriott Hotel, Lisbon, Portugal, on 21-23 September 2011. This Conference will continue the series which started in London in 1962, and which has since been held at venues in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Hungary.
This year's event will focus on:
The 14th Asian Battery Conference organisers are delighted to be bringing Asia’s premier biennial Battery Conference and Exhibition to cultural rich and economically burgeoning India. The Asian Battery Conference has a long and proud history of bringing together the world’s leading battery related businesses and technical staff to remain updated on new and emerging technologies, understands future directions, meet new suppliers, conduct business and network with industry peers.
EUROBAT will be represented in this event by Dr Mario Natalucci from FAAM.
The 2nd International Secondary Lead Conference which will be held immediately prior to the 14 Asian Battery Conference in Hyderabad, India 12 & 13 September 2011. This conference will bring together all aspects of secondary lead smelting; discussing plant design, smelting regimes, refractories, burner design, slag formation and structures, pollution and environmental control amongst other presentations. It is the conference aim to open up all aspects of plant operations and control as to give not only operators, but people interested in secondary smelting a better understanding of the processes involved in the industry.
EUROBAT will be represented by Mr Ermanno Vitali, Vice-General Manager, FAAM Group, China.
Matching electricity supply to fluctuating demand was always the major challenge for utilities. However, the large-scale introduction of renewable sources of electricity, such as from wind and solar radiation, poses an even bigger challenge due to their variable nature with occasional high output peaks and prolonged times of no output at all.
Electricity Energy Storage (EES) offers a considerable value for the energy sector in this context. It can also help to cover peaks in demand and thus decrease the need for peaking power and related investments in transmission and distribution systems. EES can also help in improving grid reliability and stability.
Running for the 3rd time World Lead Conference will again provide forum for discussion and business negotiations for the key players in the lead industry worldwide. There is a lot to talk about at the moment from the commercial and environmental standpoint. Prices remain volatile bringing lead closer to the commodity status and creating as many challenges as opportunities. The conference is aiming at addressing both, gathering lead miners, smelters, recyclers, end users and traders in the beneficial debate over the most burning issues in the convenient hub of Europe, Brussels.
EUROBAT Members are entitled to a 10% discount in the conference registration fee. Contact the Secretariat for more details.
