Release Date:
30 May 2011

EUROBAT, the European Automotive and Industrial Battery Association, has issued the White Paper “Importance of Battery Energy Storage for Renewable Energy Supply: an Analysis of Battery Systems and their Application in Off-Grid, Mini-Grid and On-Grid Configurations”. The publication was released at the EUROBAT Annual General Meeting and Forum in Barcelona, Spain.

The White Paper is an example of the commitment of the European battery industry represented in EUROBAT in offering valuable technical solutions that play an important role in tackling climate change and therefore assist the European Union in achieving its ambitious 20-20-20 targets.

This White Paper provides an overview of battery energy storage (BES) technologies and its different uses and application. BES can not only be used for storing energy, but can also benefit end-users such as households, businesses and the electric utility industry who are responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical power. The publication also includes a technology roadmap for each one of the battery technologies represented in EUROBAT: lithium, nickel, lead and sodium based batteries. The key features, deployment status and outlook for each technology are presented in detail.
