EUROBAT Committees’ Secretary, Erwin Marckx, presented a poster about EUROBAT activities during the ARE Symposium “Merging Off-Grid Research and Business” which took place in Brussels, on 18 February 2011.

The symposium brought together leading off-grid researchers and professionals from the private sector and provided an overview about key research topics, offering to the participants interesting networking opportunities. The symposium presented the deliverables of the Research Working Group of ARE composed of off-grid researchers from Fraunhofer ISE, INES, University of Delft, University of Twente and University of Southampton.

EUROBAT’s poster (Innovative Battery Technologies for Rural Electrification & Renewable Energy Supply) raised considerable interest among the event’s participants. The poster highlighted the importance of the main battery families: lead, nickel, lithium and sodium. The poster emphasized that different BES technologies exist and each one of them has a role to play in the future as best solution to the needs of a system depending on their specific attributes.

The poster included two case studies: RES Integration in Mini-Grid Configuration (The Marovato Project - Africa) and RES Integration in Off-grid Configuration (European Batteries for Advanced PV Systems in Guadeloupe).

The presentations of the event can be downloaded from ARE’s website
